I’ll stick to the hiking boot
The outer shell discolored quick. Uncomfortable standing or walking for long durations. The string eyelets are D shaped and keep spinning in the leather strap that holds them in place, which are wearing the laces prematurely. All in all, I’ll stick with the hiking boots

Zero Cushion, hard flat sole
Worst Merrels i own. Zero cushion or support, hard, flat, almost no tread for grip.

Good looks but low comfort and durability
I purchased these in early December and almost immediately had to replace the very minimally cushioned insole. Strike One. Not comfortable after a few uses.
I like the way they look and after replacing the insoles they felt a million times better.
(Spenco total support is what I went with)
The leather upper looks great but wear far too easily. I tried to clean them but they almost feel like they fall apart. I used a fairly mild leather cleaner.
Like the way they look but 0 comfort and 0 durability. Not what is expected from merrell

Eyelet D rings causes questionable durability
Due to holiday travel flowing directly into a European trip, I’ve nearly worn these shoes nonstop for 3 weeks straight with 50km+ of strolling in them. Uppers are very comfortable. I was surprised by the lack of a prominent arch support in the insole when new out of the box, but seems sufficient. The slab of an outsole feels like what it is after a few kilometers strolling a city on hard pavement. The inner heel gets fatigued first despite my step normally wears out shoes under the balls of my feet first.
My main complaint is with the D shaped metal eyelet rings. They frequently rotate while tying (not sure if I have instances of them rotating after tying while walking). This causes the shoe lace and eyelet loop to get pinched into the corners of the D. I fear this will cause wear over time and compromise durability of one or both of them. If it’s only the lace that wears, that’s replaceable. But the eyelet loop wouldn’t be able to be repaired without obvious modification.
