This is a result of one 10 miles hike on a grand new shoe...both inner sides torned and piece of thread hanging loose, for the price it cost, I do not recommend this brand to anyone.

Good for light hiking.
I use my Merrells for light hiking on rocky desert trails and roads in Arizona. They provide good performance on both types of terrain. These shoes provide breathability in the desert, which is becoming harder to find since most are waterproof. The wide fits my weird feet and provides good support on trails.

For long walks, these are the shoes for me
With little time for a break-in, took these to Washington DC to walk the many miles to see monuments and museums. LOTS of steps and standing. They were so comfy and provided excellent support. The wide width was perfect for me!
