Captain N/S Leather Shoulder Bag

It is a nice looking bag, but it is not actual cowhide, it is leather the way compressed sawdust is wood, In the description, Nordstrom says, " supersoft, full-grain leather." Perhaps the N/S means bonded leather particles. Perhaps this is a good thing for the planet. Would I have bought it, if I knew? Absolutely not. I have included a photo of the tag which is hidden inside the bag, so that you can choose for yourself.

This is a beautifully constructed bag. I love the simplicity, it’s so chic. Fits my laptop and water bottle and sweater and all other small essentials. The small attached pouch inside is handy for keys and wallet and small items. The handle is a good width and comfortable on your shoulders. I’m 5’1 and 120lbs with small narrow shoulders but this bag fits great and does not feel too overbearing on my small frame. One complaint is that it is easily scratched and scuffed. The leather is super soft. Like suuuuper soft. It’s a luxurious feel but very sensitive to any harsh items rubbing against it. The space where the bag meets my hip is already showing signs of wear and scuffing only after a handful of wears. But for the price and look, I’d say it’s worth it. I’ve received so many compliments from other women who appreciate the simple understated chic design.

I loved this bag when i bought it. That quickly changed when within three months areas of the leather started peeling off and the interior suede started shedding. I expected better quality from a bag of this price point. Even worse is that Nordstrom Rack would not return the bag because it was over 30 days. I remember when Nordstrom used to stand behind the products they sold. That level of customer service has evidentially changed.

This bag is call N/S leather. The acronym is commonly used for Nauga Soft which is a durable type of Naugahyde. It’s soft and feels like leather but is a man-made material that can often tear or peel with prolonged use The bag does not have a “genuine leather” tag so it is not false advertising. I am returning.
