Pilled immediately

I bought this shirt for my husband for Father’s Day from a store in our area. It’s beautiful and the fabric is so silky and great for the hot summers. The problem is that even though I have followed the washing instructions to a T it is pilling like crazy. I’m very disappointed because he’s only gotten to wear it 3 times and it looks quite bad. I’m very disappointed.
