Sizing inconsistencies

I ordered two of the prints, one in a L and the other an XL. I loved the fit of the XL and immediately ordered the other two color options in an XL. Unfortunately, the second order was not positive. One dress was not the size I ordered and the other said XL but it was either a S or an XS. It had obviously been mislabeled. Is this a sizing issue with the brand, a quality issue with Nordstrom Rack, or a combination? I love the first dress I ordered but the other 3 dresses will all go back. Disappointing.
