Just do it. They're AWESOME!
As a Texan, I thought I had no need for such footwear. That is, until I had to go to NJ & NYC for work... in January. While I did not have these for that trip, I learned some valuable lessons about footwear needs in below freezing temps in snow and slush in a walkable city. These are waterproof (good thing #1) and super cute (good thing #2) and holy cow are they comfy (good thing #3). The upper has a mix of leather and an almost wool-like material and it felt pretty insulative. There is about a 1.5" wedge insole in them but it seems to add more of a spring in your step, rather than noticeable height. These are big/wide enough for thick wool socks when you order your normal size. I initially wore them with just my regular socks around the house and I did have to really work to tighten them up, so keep that in mind. Looks like Ill be able to test them out for warmth and grip this weekend as the arctic knocks on texas' door this weekend. Overall, very happy with this purchase.
