Total winner

I needed some lightweight, waterproof ankle boots (not serious hikers), and tried some Merrells at my local outdoor store. They did not stock wide sizes, but I discovered what length I would need in the brand, and ordered from the website. This style recommended going up a half-size, and that gave me a perfect fit. I love these. I have a wide forefoot, high arch and instep, one foot longer than the other, and no tolerance for foot discomfort. I am able to lace these so that both feet are comfortable. (I did swap in my accustomed arch support insoles.) They are flexible, truly waterproof, not too hot, have good grip, provide ankle support, and don’t weigh me down.

Not wide at all, and also too small, which I found out months after purchase. When originally purchased, there was no disclaimer saying: Runs Small. Based on returns, we recommend you size up. If you usually wear size 7, order 7.5. . They wouldn’t accept the return . These were expensive. Extremely disappointed, and will never buy Merrells for myself or my family again.

Roomy and comfortable for travel.

I replaced the original sole with Merrell wool liners and worn them throughout my recent travel in Greece. The wide width was roomy for my toes and the Gore-Tex and Merrell wool liners kept my feet warm and dry during the many rainy and cold days. Very pleased!

Excellent shoes!

I bought this over a month ago for my wife. She needed shoes that would give her stability walking our energetic dog throughout our neighborhood as well as hiking. We live in a four-season area, so waterproof shoes are also necessary. These shoes are very light and comfortable. The size fit perfectly. My wife is very happy with the purchase.

Good boot for day hikes and casual use

I sized up based on the recommendation on the website and wish I hadn’t after hiking in them. They are too long and foot slips going downhill. They are very comfortable and stylish. A little beat up after hiking 5 miles on a somewhat rocky trail with a heavy pack. Probably best for short day trips.

Ideal for rainy mountain hikes!

I bought these for a 5-day September trek in Colorado’s San Juan Mountains. I have a small but wide foot with a narrow heel so I got the wide width 6.5 and these performed so well! My feet stayed dry despite stepping in creeks a few times, despite the rain too. They fit my orthotics too (from road runner). I also got them in non goretex since where I live is much drier. Both are great! And I searched a long time trying different shoes before going with these.

Love! Lasted a few years of hard yard work!

Loved these boots so much that I just came looking for a new pair to replace them. I really wear them hard, working in the garden and doing yard work in them. They are very comfortable. I got waterproof ones and they were stiffer - better for hiking than yard work. Over time these have had the expected wear - loose stitch on the toe, lost the aglet on one lace - but I can't give them up so I ordered a new pair of these and also trying the Speed Strike 2! They arrive soon!

Best lightweight hiking shoe ever

After wearing another brand for years, even completing the AT, I didn’t think I could find a better hiking shoe. These are it! Lightweight, very comfortable, stable (unlike any I’ve ever had), and just all around great! I have orthotics that fit well inside this shoe. With my bunions and flat feet, I’ve been told I shouldn’t be hiking, yet I’ve done several long hikes in these and have ended the day with happy feet.

Good impression

My daughter used these to hike 11 miles into the wilderness and up a 9500 foot peak and 11 miles back out. She wore them for 4x days straight. She had not broken them in, but they were comfortable to her the entire time and never caused blisters. They seemed to have good traction on all surfaces.

Looks better than it fits

For the price of these shoes I would go a different route. Bought these for rucking through bear country and they are not the right boots for me. Too much space in the toe area allows slipping and the shoe is not comfortable over long periods of time.
