True to size but…..

I usually wear a 38 in Birkenstocks 7 1/2/8 but bought a size 8 81/2 in this bootie based on advice to size up. I have a short, wide foot. This shoe is a smidge tight in width and a smidge long in length with my socks on. I believe that if I had gone with my usual size it would’ve been too small. Glad I went up in size.
