Three-Quarter Sleeve Pocket Shift Dress

I wanted to love this dress. But it just doesn't hang right in the areas around the armholes. The width of the dress at the armpits is much wider than the width where the shoulder seam is, so if you put your arms out, it looks like your body, at the point where the armpits are, is many inches wider than the shoulder, which simply looks odd. The size 6 looked like a size 8 at the shoulders (just right), and like a 12 at the spot where the bottom of the sleeve meets the dress (much too big). I expected it to be a logical width around the chest and then flare out from the armpit point. This also makes the area from the crew neck to the armpit pull and drape diagonally somewhat, which visually conflicts with the nice horizontal line at the chest. The fabric is nice, lined, and well made besides the weird dimensions at the top, overall the dress drapes nice, the pockets are nearly invisible and are at the right height to put your hands in comfortably and naturally. I tried it on at least a dozen times just to see if maybe I could live with the fit but decided to return it.
