Order one size smaller than recommended

I followed the size guide for Favorite Daughter jeans and selected size 30 and still the jeans were just a little too big as in there was extra space in the waist and lower belly part that I felt made the jeans boring and not particularly flattering. 5'3, 170lbs, 40-35-41 or something like that, mid 40s perimenopausal weight fluctuations. The button fly does nothing to improve them. And the jean material feels rough. I would go down a size if I ever purchased from them again. I would not recommend this item.
