MTL MQM 1TRL Hiking Shoe (Women)

I have loved MQMs for years and have gone through about 5 pairs of previous models. They are my favorite Merrell shoe. However, I don't like the MTL because they cause hotspots on my heels even on short hikes. I've never had that problem with my other MQMs, which are always comfortable straight out of the box. I haven't dared to wear these for long hikes because I think my heels would be shredded. Otherwise they feel good.

I wore these shoes on our last trip to visit several state and national parks. I was impressed with the traction on sand and rocks, even on terrain that I assumed I might have a little trouble on. The heel has flexibility which isn't something I've seen before and made me wonder. They are very comfortable

I don't leave reviews very often. This shoe has really grown on me. IT IS VERY VERSATILE. It is supportive and yet flexible. The shoe transitions well between bike riding, hiking, and light trail running. The heel is made of flexible fabric which is great for mountain bike riding, but the sole is grippy when jumping off the bike and walking over gravel or rocky ground. The toes are made of tough water-proof material, so my socks are never wet from dew on the grass. I am ordering a second pair in case they don't make the shoe again!
