NOT REAL GOLD.
The listing says it's 10k. The tag says 10k Copp .042 cttw. The ring in the listing is not stamped, curiously. The ring is stamped, '10k RL'. 'RL' means 'Rolled Gold'. This thinner than gold-filled, but thicker than vermeil, and is made by mechanically bonding two metals with different atomic numbers to each other to increase strength.
The ring itself with the lab opal weighs about a gram. The 10k gold in this ring - 41% gold - is bonded to copper to give it the illusion of being solid 10k gold, but once we assess for the lab opal's and the copper ring's weights, we get a gold melt value of about $20, at best. I am so unbelievably disappointed in Nordstrom but also in the Rachel & Zoe line which have both committed false advertising and have marked up this scrap-metal ring with zero resale value on the jewelry market for 10x its gold production costs. In fact, it costs more to cut corners with rolled gold than to actually make a solid ring of the same width from 10k.
'RG' also means 'rolled gold.' Check all your stamps. And shame on you, Nordstrom for not showing the gold mark in the listing. 'Glad I caught this before I gave it to my daughter, and glad I took 4 years of chemistry.
