In an open toe shoe is usually 8-8.5, and depending on how the shoe is cut and the length, in most cases Wide Width. This shoe is a true 8.5W, even the length. I first ordered the 8W according to reviews that said shoe runs large and go down a 1/2 size. I have a high instep and broke the bone in my left foot twice, so I need the width to be wider for that foot. If you have a bunion, hammer toes or just a wider foot, get a wide width, you will not regret it. If you have a slender or average feet with no issues, then average width will work. Hope this helps.
