Details & care

An all-condition hiker that leaves a smaller footprint, this waterproof trail shoe sets layers of recycled leather and polyester on a durable, cushioned sole. A gusseted tongue and PFC-free Gore-Tex protection keep splashes and trail debris at bay, while an Achilles-cradling pull tab and a liner made of 50% soybean oil wrap every step in comfort. Multidirectional lugs and an extended heel that absorbs impact ground every outing in stability and confidence.

Some redesigning necessary
I found them quite comfortable and stable in the shoe area (and yea, fun looking). I still have one of the very first Hokas introduced at the Outdoor Retailer Show and could see their great potential. But as some others have commented, the lace grommets, especially at the bend of the ankle on the instep side, dig into the ankle bone. I started to feel it after several minutes of walking around inside the house. I'm a 66 year old retired mountaineer, now just a daily hiker - I know hiking boots. The tongue needs a redesign also - too flimsy and will be prone to tearing too soon. If you are good with leaving the ankle laces real loose and are in it for the fashion, go for it. For me, they go back.

great shoe at a great price
Bought these for a Mt Whitney summit hike. 11/10. Comfy out of the box, no break in needed. I wish I would have sized up a half size to accommodate a thicker sock. True to size.
