Toe strap is in a weird place

After great success with my wide sneakers, I wanted to try Merrell sandals. These didn't work for me. I am usually about a 9.5W (I buy 10W in sneakers) so I got a 10 and the toe strap is in a weird place. I'm going to exchange for a 9W but they may be too small. I also bought "Women's Terran 4 Slide Wide Width" in a 10W and those were great, so these were just a miss on the fit.
