Cole Haan Melton Coat

TL;DR: Nice quality, good style, nice details, very boxy fit, a little short in the sleeves for a 6'2" man. We're getting it tailored. My partner is 6'2" and quite lean; 32x32 pants, medium slim t-shirts or 15.5 dress shirts. He has broad shoulders and long arms. I got this for him and the fit is... okay. The sleeves fit him the way they fit the model, which is just a little bit too short, but not deal-breaker short. The fit in the shoulders is actually a little too big, but not so big that sizing down to a small would be appropriate. There's also some nonremovable shoulder padding between the lining and the exterior which I'm not crazy about. However the main problem I have with the coat is how boxy it is. If we removed 3 full inches of fabric from each side, it would fit wonderfully. Well - since my partner loves all the details on this coat - the zippered hood (even though it feels like nylon and I have *no idea* how it could ever protect someone from the elements), the leather lining, the modern style - we are going to do exactly that. We took it to a Nordstrom tailor and she was not convinced that she could successfully alter the coat. However there are plenty of tailors in our area who are skilled in altering men's wool coats. ... I do think it's a hassle and if the coat were mine I'd return it because it truly does fit my partner like a box with arms. But the style is on point and my partner thinks he'll love this thing once it's tailored, so that's what we're going to do. I'd recommend this to someone who had a broader or perhaps shorter build, someone who carried a bit more weight than my partner does, or someone willing to deal with the fuss of tailoring it. Otherwise, I'd skip it.
