What it does: The Clarifying Lotion is an extragentle exfoliator that's a difference-maker for healthy skin. It sweeps away pollution, grime and dulling flakes to reveal smoother, clearer-looking skin. It helps prep skin for moisturizer—exfoliated skin is more receptive to hydration and treatment products. For drier skin, exfolation whisks away surface flakes, clearing the way for moisturizer. For oilier skin, twice-daily exfoliation helps minimize excess oil and keep pores clear. Did you know Clinique’s exfoliating lotion is different from a toner? Toners are primarily used to help rebalance skin after cleansing. Clinique Clarifying Lotion is formulated with exfoliating ingredients to help remove dead cells on skin’s surface. Clearing away that debris with Clarifying Lotion makes skin more receptive to moisturizer and other treatment products.

The Clarifying Lotion is step 2 in Clinique's 3-Step Skin Care System. It is available in five skin-typed formulas:
- Clarifying Face Lotion 1.0: extragentle, acohol-free formula is safe for sensitive skin
- Clarifying Face Lotion 1: mild for very dry skin
- Clarifying Face Lotion 2: gentle for dry-combination skin
- Clarifying Face Lotion 3: great for combination-oily skin
- Clarifying Face Lotion 4: formulated for oily skin

Key ingredients:
- Acetyl glucosamine: helps balance and smooth skin
- Witch hazel: helps refine skin
- BHA (salicylic acid): helps clear and unclog pores

How to use: Use the clarifying lotion twice a day, morning and night. Apply with a cotton ball, sweeping gently over face and neck. Follow with Step 3, moisturizer (sold separately).
