High Quality, well fitting shoe
I ordered my regular shoe size and out of the box they are very tight and difficult to get on. Once I get them they are very comfortable and have enough toe room. I'm assuming (and hoping) they will stretch out naturally. Quality wise the shoe is excellent.

Sadly Peter Millar changed the sizing
Last year I purchased the Excursionist Penny Loafer in Chestnut and it fit perfectly. I even had to "size down" like they suggest on the website. This year, I ordered the exact same shoe but in Pebble and it does not fit. I compared the soles of the new shoe to the old shoe and the new sole is both narrower and shorter than the exact same size (12M) from last year. This is disappointing not only because they ruined a great fitting shoe but because they also do not offer a 12.5 and a 13 will be too big.

What is correct size??
Your description is confusing. It says to order a half size down than you normally would, which I did. Upon arriving they were too small. Before completing an exchange I read the reviews of this shoe. Over and over the reviews state they were hard to get on or small. Why do you suggest going down a half size when your customers are saying the sizing is small? I exchanged and just got my normal size but do I keep them? It’s a LOT to pay when I can’t return them after being used.
