Pleated A-Line Dress

I look for dresses with zippers--they give dresses shape. Most dresses these days have wide necklines, so the makers can cheap out by not using zippers or button closures. The dresses have baggy waistlines, too, and are sold as "easy" and "effortless." Usually the fabrics are flimsy, too, because the customer will wear the dresses for a season and then throw them out or give them away. This dress is a keeper. It boasts durable fabric, a closely-woven, mostly rayon twill that balances shape retention with good drape. It's shape-flattering: the boat neckline and cap sleeves broaden the shoulder line, the waist panel nips in without being too tight, and the drapey midi skirt lengthens the leg line. It even has pockets! The neckline is versatile--I have a lace collar to go under it, or I can add a chiffon scarf, or statement necklace. You can dress this piece up or down.
