The material feels like synthetic

I tried on the hat in the store. I couldn't believe it's Kate Spade. The material feels like synthetic, lack of the cotton canvas texture but smooth & sleek. It probably fit most head circumference. The shape is like a desk lamp. I couldn't see what's in front of me when putting on the hat.
