Flower Crochet Skirt

Man I wanted to love this! I jumped on the sale price to get the Large and the Medium after hearing that it runs large. I am normally a L in Farm Rio. When they came in, though, the first problem was not the size but rather the fabrication. Though high quality in construction and materials, the problem is that white crochet reads “summer,” but the WEIGHT of the skirt was winter weight! It is a HEAVY skirt. Think of the coziest sweater dress or skirt you might wear, and that would be this. Though it was beautiful, it really felt like I was trying an afghan around my waist as a sarong to keep warm. Dang. It is hard to imagine a use case for this—early spring when temps are cold but it is sunny out perhaps? A very northern clim where it is summer but feels cold (scandinavia?). As for sizes, I needed the medium, but it was still a lot of fabric that overwhelmed my 5’4” height. I had read that the skirt was “delicate” and so thought the yarn was a lightweight cotton, but no. If this were in a winter friendly color (deep plum for example), I would have kept it for winter wear. But the white won’t look right (to me) in winter months in Colorado. Hope this helps others!

I love this skirt but the medium was way too big and so I’m returning and ordering the size small, which is my normal size. (I ordered according to the size chart proved in description, but…). The skirt has a 2-1/2” knit waistband and is cut straight, easy pull on (no zipper required) and flares slightly below the hip line, giving it a very nice drape on the body. It is fully lined and the lining doesn’t ride up under the cotton crochet. I love it so much and I anticipate it will work well here in South Texas. I’m inspired by Ralph Lauren and will style the crocheted skirt with a chambray shirt, large concho belt and western boots or ballet flats and sandals. I will also wear it with crisp white cotton or linen shirts, white t-shirt, and my off white, linen fitted blazer for summer neutrals. The possibilities for me are endless. I will play around with this skirt well into the fall with a black jersey knit turtleneck I currently own as well as a cognac fitted leather blazer. This skirt is a winner!
