Fiddich Waxed Cotton Coat

I’ve always wanted a more structured Barbour jacket, so I decided to try this. I have a few other Barbour’s that I love dearly. This jacket is very typical of Barbour waxed coats, it is beautifully constructed. The dark navy color is beautiful, inky and perfectly neutral. However — this runs 3-4 sizes small, especially in the shoulders/bust. I am widest at my bust, and my normal Barbour size (that typically leaves enough room for a heavy Babaa sweater!) was ~6-7 inches away from being able to be closed at the top! I’ve never experienced that before with Barbour. It is so frustrating that other form-fitting Barbour coats, like the Beadnell, have vastly different sizing compared to this coat.

But I gave it a four because my normal size 6 is tight across my upper arms and there’s no waist shaping.. I’m going to try a size larger, but it might be too large through the body at that point. I also wish the vent opened slightly higher up, however I love the jacket. I noticed there’s snaps underneath the collar and an extra zipper inside. That makes me think this is like the Beadnall and a hood or extra lining can be purchased for it. The Navy is very dark, almost black.

I love the color and feel of this jacket - it will be a real fall classic. Both the navy and the olive are very dark, almost black and I didn’t see much difference except the interior. This jacket is quite fitted. I normally wear a US4 or small. I originally ordered a US 6 and while it zipped, it was too tight across the back and shoulders. US8 was out of stock so I ordered a US10. It fits great across the chest / shoulders with some room for layering but is too big at the waist. I will probably have it tailored. My only wish is that it has a hood.

I have a couple of Barbour jackets. I feel like the sizing is all over the map. An allerston a Us 8 and an Acorn in a US 10. I have tried on the beadnell and for that I am a 14 as it’s a slimmer fit. I had to size up to a US 16 in this jacket because of the slimmer shoulder and chest area. Don’t hesitate to size up. I like the fit of the 16. It’s comfortable over shirts or a sweater. The navy is a great color.
