Long Sleeve Button Front Cotton Dress

I bought this for a bug-themed costume party (I’m going as a housefly). I purchased it on a complete whim and admittedly I didn’t really look at the details, just wanted a simple black cotton dress to arrive quickly. From afar, that’s what this dress is. But when you get close you can see just how many thoughtful details there are, and together they make this a really interesting and easy to wear statement piece. The sleeves are a bit of an odd shape (think barrel jean silhouette for your arms) but the waist-nipping bodice offsets that roundness in a really lovely way. I will say that the sleeve length is a little too long for me, but I see in the listing that they are long on the model, too, so I assume it’s intentional. I will probably have the sleeves shortened at the tailor later, but for now I will just cuff them. On the material: the cotton is a bit crinkly, but after a cold wash with some white vinegar it softened up just fine. Overall it feels sophisticated, beautiful, and a little abstract, unlike anything I’ve owned or worn before. I normally don’t take risks with clothing and probably wouldn’t pick this dress off the rack, but I honestly feel really confident and comfortable in it and can’t wait to wear it to the office in the fall with some stockings. I’m glad I purchased this and, considering it was about $40, it’s a great value.
