Stanton Bit Loafer

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've had the Stanton for a few months now and it's quickly become my go-to loafer for both the office and weekend errands. The bit hardware has real weight to it without feeling gaudy, and the leather has that classic Allen Edmonds burnish — it's already developing a nice patina with light conditioning. Construction-wise, this is where AE earns its price tag. The build feels substantial underfoot, and unlike a lot of loafers in this price range, it doesn't feel disposable — this is a shoe built to be resoled and rewelted down the line rather than replaced. Fit runs true to size for me, though if you're between sizes I'd size down slightly given how the leather relaxes after a week or two of wear. The leather sole took a short break-in period to stop feeling stiff, but it's smoothed out nicely and the traction has been fine on most surfaces (just watch out for wet tile). Style-wise it's versatile enough to wear with chinos or a suit — dresses up or down easily, which is exactly what I wanted out of a bit loafer. Only minor knock: at this price point I'd love to see a slightly wider range of half sizes/widths stocked consistently online.

I am extremely disappointed in this purchase. The size is smaller than usual. The finish and craftsmanship is very poor. It looks like it was not inspected and finished by a 4 year old. I have other AE shoes that are the same size and this runs a size smaller. Will rethink what I've always thought of Allen Edmonds. Quality is very much reduced.
