Stanton Bit Loafer

The shoes were way too narrow. I have over a dozen pairs of Allen Edmonds, almost all size 11, so I bought a size 11 Stanton in Black. When they arrived, I was super excited to try them on, as the shoes were gorgeous—better looking in person than online. However, they were way too small and narrow for my size 11 feet. Took them back to the closest storefront and the guy said they only made the Stanton in Narrows and Extra Wide. Big mistake, Allen Edmonds!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've had the Stanton for a few months now and it's quickly become my go-to loafer for both the office and weekend errands. The bit hardware has real weight to it without feeling gaudy, and the leather has that classic Allen Edmonds burnish — it's already developing a nice patina with light conditioning. Construction-wise, this is where AE earns its price tag. The build feels substantial underfoot, and unlike a lot of loafers in this price range, it doesn't feel disposable — this is a shoe built to be resoled and rewelted down the line rather than replaced. Fit runs true to size for me, though if you're between sizes I'd size down slightly given how the leather relaxes after a week or two of wear. The leather sole took a short break-in period to stop feeling stiff, but it's smoothed out nicely and the traction has been fine on most surfaces (just watch out for wet tile). Style-wise it's versatile enough to wear with chinos or a suit — dresses up or down easily, which is exactly what I wanted out of a bit loafer. Only minor knock: at this price point I'd love to see a slightly wider range of half sizes/widths stocked consistently online.

The shoes are beautiful and clearly well crafted. The packaging is lovely as well. Unfortunately, even after using the sizing guide, the shoes purchased were too big by at least a 1/2 size. These will returned to size down. Hopefully the next pair will fit!
